Steamboat Willie: The Musical
a short musical comedy
book, music and lyrics
by Rich Orloff
Looking for a fun and delightful 15-minute musical comedy? Based on the iconic 1928 Walt Disney cartoon that introduced Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, STEAMBOAT WILLIE: THE MUSICAL tells how two mice named Mickey and Minnie meet on a riverboat, and how Minnie gives Mickey the gift of courage.
Designed for a cast of six or more (2 m., 1 w., and a cow, a sheep, a duck, and two steamboat whistles), STEAMBOAT WILLIE: THE MUSICAL can be performed on a simple set – or no set at all!
The show’s five songs are available for listening on Soundcloud. To hear them, click on the titles:
Mickey’s Song, which introduces a charming dreamer named Mickey
I Kinda Like You, an upbeat not-quite-love song between two smitten characters who don’t want to admit their feelings
Open Your Eyes, in which Minnie recounts a life-affirming ballad her mother sang to her
You Bring Out the Animal in Me, in which Mickey (aided by three animals) responds with enthusiasm to Minnie’s encouragement to stand up to the steamboat’s captain
You’ve Got Potential, a singing and dancing duet for Mickey and Minnie, delighted with each other and their possible future together
